Bernard Hill, who starred in Titanic and Lord of the Rings, has died at the age of 79. The actor, who played Captain Edward Smith in the 1997 Oscar-winning film, died in the early hours of this morning, his agent has said. A father-of-one, he became known to a generation for his portrayal of King Theoden in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. In the process he starred in two films - Titanic and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King - which won 11 Oscars and crossed $1billion at the box office. His passing comes hours before he was due to return to TV in Martin Freeman drama The Responder, which airs on BBC One tonight.

The three suspects charged in relation to the disappearance of three surfers - two Australian and one American - who were travelling in Mexico have been identified. Jesús Gerardo Garcia Cota, alias El Kekas, and his partner Ari Gisel García Cota have been charged after Mexican authorities located four bodies at a ranch in an area of northern Mexico. Cristian Alejandro García, the brother of Kekas, was also charged. All three of the suspects were in possession of an assortment of methamphetamines and other illegal drugs at the time of arrest.

Urban, 51, was recently convicted in Utah for five counts of rape and forcible sexual abuse - he was given the maximum sentence for his crimes, which were exacted against his stepdaughter, Ashley Vigil. Vigil died in March of this year, after Urban's arrest. On the day of his sentencing, dozens rallied outside of the courthouse in support of Ashley, including Paula S., from Montana, who said she met Urban back in the 90s.

Sam Hickman (left) has reportedly called of his July 27 marriage to fiancée Madison Bergmann (right) after she was arrested for allegedly making out with an 11-year-old student. Bergmann was a teacher at River Crest Elementary School in Wisconsin until the allegations emerged. Now it appears her relationship is also on the rocks, with Hickman reportedly describing his betrothed's behavior as 'f*****d up'.

Helene 'Leni' Riefenstahl died 21 years ago at age 101, after spending more than half her life trying to shed aspects of a questionable legacy. Video filmed at the scene showed the group of friends casually peering into the water as Christopher Gilbert, 26, who could not swim, fought for up to 20 minutes to save himself at the lake in Farmerville, Louisiana. Their gruesome acts of murder and cannibalism shocked Russia when they came to light in 2017. Dmitry Baksheev and Natalia Baksheeva were allegedly butchering dozens of people over a period of 18 years before police finally discovered the cannibalistic lair hidden in their flat - including cut off body parts and photos of their human meat dishes. Dmitry and Natalia, then aged 35 and 42 respectively, were arrested after road workers found a phone containing images of him holding a severed human hand in southern Russia. When police searched their flat in Krasnodar, they reportedly found several chopped off body parts, pickled human remains, a dozen slices of skin and recipes as well as 'cannibal videos' outlining how to cook human flesh. Investigators alleged the couple used dating sites to recruit women to kill and eat, but Dmitry - who was nicknamed the 'Devil = and his wife were only convicted of the murder of a waitress, whose partial remains were found in their fridge and freezer.

Dozens of Iranian rappers have been arrested since the early 2000s, when hip-hop started gaining traction in the country, and last month rapper Toomaj Salehi (right) was sentenced to death for charges linked to a period of nationwide unrest. As rap gained popularity in Iran, the Islamic Republic tried to discredit the genre, even branding rappers as 'satanists'. But their attempts were unsuccessful so the regime started commissioning musicians to 'spread their ideology and trying to influence young people'. Amir Tataloo, 36, (left) one of Iran's most controversial rap artists, first gained notoriety for his criticisms of Iran's human rights record. But he later dopted a conservative stance, promoted a pro-government agenda and even issued support for president Ebrahim Raisi during his 2017 campaign. In his 2015 song Energy Hasteei, asserted Iran's right to self-defence and hailed the nation's nuclear energy program. He sang in his chorus 'this is our absolute right, to have an armed Persian Gulf'.
