I am a 3rd year Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering Science student, working on a joint project between the Department of Engineering Science and the Department of Zoology at the University of Oxford. My research involves the development of methodologies for probabilistic inference in spatio-temporal data and tools that help us identify relations between entities in large datasets that are dominated by noise and/or missing observations. We are also examining how genetic (SNP) data account for network structure in large ecological systems. I work under the supervision of Prof Stephen Roberts (Engineering), Prof Ben Sheldon (Zoology) and Dr Robin Freeman (Microsoft) and I hold a fully funded 3-year Microsoft Research scholarship.
I conducted my Master of Science in Information Technology (with Distinction) at the Department of Computing Science, University of Glasgow, under the supervision of Dr Theodoros Damoulas and Prof Mark Girolami. Our research, conducted in the context of my MSc dissertation at the Inference Research Group and published on the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks journal, involved the family of sparse Bayesian learning methodologies multi-class multi-kernel Relevance Vector Machines (mRVMs). The research was sponsored by NCR Systems and more details are available here.
I hold a 5-year Engineering Degree from the Department of Production Engineering and Management, Technical University of Crete (Greece). My undergraduate thesis involved the development of macroscopic traffic simulation models and experimentation on a specific urban area of Athens. The research was conducted under the supervision of Dr Elias Kosmatopoulos and was funded by the Greek Secretariat for Research and Technology.
During the summer of 2012, I moved to Washington DC to conduct my sabbatical at DeepMile Networks LLC, working on methodologies to identify influencers in Social Media.
I come from Rethymno, Crete (Greece).
