There’s already been a lot of spilt ink, or mashed laptop keys, over the casting of Jodie Whittaker as the new Doctor Who.

Twitter erupted into a storm over Sunday’s announcement, with people both celebrating the decision to cast the first female Doctor...

….and lamenting it.

Looks like this post is no longer available from its original source. It might've been taken down or had its privacy settings changed.

Now the Merriam-Webster dictionary has pretty much wrapped up the debate in just six words...

Twitter is loving the implicit takedown of Doctor Who naysayers, with users sharing the tweet over 44,000 times and giving it more than 115,000 likes.

But this is actually just the latest in a string of ultra-sassy tweets from the dictionary.

In early 2016, it challenged anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-gender-equality trolls by calling out some questionable logic.

It has also busted some grammatical – and cultural – misconceptions over the casting of a 1980s classic remake.

Merriam-Webster has also had plenty to say on the US presidency.

And weighed in on the origins of the 'snowflake' insult that’s often used against liberals by the alt-right.

But perhaps its finest moment is this simple troll-post of its rival, Dictionary.com

Ahh, there’s nothing like pure, delicious shade.
