Twitter was broken – worldwide outage

{UPDATE 4:30pm PT: Sadly, Twitter is functional again:

[UPDATE: 3:41pm PT: Twitter says "We have no evidence this outage is caused by a security breach or hack. We're currently investigating internal root causes and will share more soon."]

People going to Twitter to ask what's wrong with Twitter are learning that they can't use Twitter to complain about the massive tech meltdown on Twitter.

The platform hasn't published any new tweets since about 2:30pm PT, though some people are reporting that they can send DMs.

From The Verge:

Verge staffers are seeing the outage across the United States and in the UK, though we have been able to send a few DMs through the platform.

Twitter's API status website initially said everything is operational, although Twitter's systems may be hindered in a way that prevents the company from updating the page. But after roughly 30 minutes, the API page posted a message reading, "Investigating — We are currently investigating this issue. More updates to come."

Twitter didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

From USA Today:

"We know people are having trouble Tweeting and using Twitter," the company said in a statement. "We're working to fix this issue as quickly as possible. We'll share more when we have it and Tweet from @TwitterSupport when we can – stay tuned."

Twitter directed readers to the website https://status.twitterstat.us/ where it keeps people up to date on Twitter status. Twitter confirmed that status was down on the website.

Wouldn't it be great if Twitter never came back online?
